Considering LASIK? We offer free consultations.
LASIK Surgery: Clear Vision with Advanced Technology
Do you want to be free of the need to wear your glasses or contact lenses? Caruana Eye Care is now offering free LASIK evaluation visits. During these visits, you will be screened by a member of our team to determine if LASIK could be a safe and effective surgery to improve your vision. These free LASIK evaluations are ideal for patients aged 21-49. If the initial screening indicates you are a good candidate for surgery, you will subsequently be scheduled with the surgeon to plan your procedure. If you are over age 50, have cataracts or glaucoma, we recommend scheduling a regular eye exam first with Dr. Caruana rather than a free LASIK consultation. Please note: if you wear contact lenses, you must temporarily discontinue use of contact lenses for the 7 days prior to your free LASIK evaluation visit, so that the contact lenses do not create errors in your measurements.
What Is LASIK Surgery?
LASIK (Laser-Assisted In Situ Keratomileusis) is a highly effective and popular procedure designed to correct refractive vision issues, such as nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism. During the procedure, a precise laser reshapes the cornea, allowing light to focus properly on the retina and resulting in clearer vision. LASIK is a quick, minimally invasive surgery with a high success rate, making it an excellent option for those looking to reduce or eliminate their dependence on glasses or contact lenses.
PRK: An Alternative to LASIK
For some patients, PRK (Photo Refractive Keratectomy) may be a better option than LASIK. PRK is another laser vision correction procedure that reshapes the cornea to improve vision. Unlike LASIK, which involves creating a flap in the cornea, PRK removes the outer layer of the cornea (epithelium) to access the underlying tissue. This makes PRK an excellent choice for individuals with thinner corneas or other conditions that may make them ineligible for LASIK. While the recovery time for PRK is slightly longer than LASIK, the results are equally effective.
What to Expect During LASIK Surgery
Take the First Step Toward Clear Vision
LASIK is a quick and virtually painless procedure that typically takes less than 15 minutes per eye. During the surgery, a laser is used to create a thin flap in the cornea, which is then lifted to allow the underlying tissue to be reshaped. Once the cornea is reshaped, the flap is carefully repositioned, and the eye begins to heal naturally. Most patients notice an improvement in their vision within 24 hours of the procedure, with full results developing over the following weeks. Dr. Caruana and his team will provide detailed post-operative instructions and follow-up care to ensure a smooth recovery and optimal results.
